Discover Petals and Potpourri: Liberty’s Hidden Gem for Custom Floral Design and Home Decor

Amanda West • July 12, 2025

Step into Petals and Potpourri in Liberty, MO—a charming local shop known for custom floral arrangements, unique decor, and personalized service that turns shopping into an experience.

A Touch of Charm in Historic Liberty

If you’ve strolled through the Liberty Square, you’ve likely noticed the warm and welcoming storefront of Petals and Potpourri, nestled in a beautifully restored 1894 building at 1 E. Kansas Street. It’s more than a shop—it’s a curated experience built on creativity, community, and family history.

A Legacy of Creativity

Petals and Potpourri began its journey in 1979 when Amber’s mother-in-law opened the original location in Blue Springs. Fast forward to 2015—Amber and her husband took the reins and expanded the business to Liberty, bringing their custom floral expertise and love for home decor to the Northland. Amber, formerly in hospitality, was ready for a fresh start. When she joked about working with her husband, he encouraged her to “get her own store”—and that’s exactly what she did.

They fell in love with Liberty for its small-town charm, historic buildings, and supportive business community. “We looked all over Kansas City, even in Kansas,” Amber says, “but something kept pulling us to Liberty.”

More Than Just Shopping

At Petals and Potpourri, customers aren’t just browsing—they’re creating, connecting, and collaborating. Known for their custom floral design services, this boutique helps customers bring their vision to life. Whether it’s a wreath, garland, or centerpiece, customers bring their vases, ideas, or Pinterest dreams—and Amber and her team turn them into reality.

Shoppers also appreciate the boutique's thoughtfully selected artificial flowers and greenery—something big box stores just can’t match in quality or design support. Even better? The store offers complimentary design help for decorating mantels, tables, and more.

Heartfelt Service That Stands Out

What sets Petals and Potpourri apart is its emphasis on relationship-based service. “It’s not just a transaction,” Amber explains. “We want people to feel connected—to us and the space.” The team is hands-on, friendly, and truly invested in helping each guest find the perfect piece for their home or gift for a loved one.

Many of Amber’s favorite moments come from watching customers light up with inspiration. “It’s so fun when a group of ladies walks in and starts imagining how they’ll use things in their home. That excitement is contagious.”

A Quiet Force in the Community

While Amber keeps her community support behind the scenes, she regularly invests in local schools, teachers, and—most importantly—relationships. “It’s about building trust,” she says. “That takes time and intention.” Her store is also deeply integrated with other downtown Liberty businesses, contributing to the strong, collaborative spirit that makes the square such a special destination.
